    GPM means gallons per minute — the maximum water the aerator lets through, usually stamped right on the side (for example "1.5 GPM" or "1.5/5.7L"). The flow restrictor inside sets this number.     1. Try hand power first. Turn the aerator counter-clockwise (lefty-loosey, as you look up at it). Many come off finger-tight.
    2. Protect the finish. If it is stuck, wrap the aerator in a cloth or a strip of masking/electrical tape so the wrench teeth do not bite the chrome or matte coating.
    3. Use the right tool. Adjustable pliers or a wrench over the cloth. For a hidden cache aerator, insert the plastic faucet aerator key that came with the faucet and turn.
