How Long Does It Take to Ship From China to USA? A 2027 Project Plan
Sea transit ranges by coast, SANIKB production lead times, ISF, bond and entry deadlines, and a backward schedule from your install date for fixture containers.

Quick answer: How long does it take to ship from China to USA by sea? Dimerco puts typical port-to-port transit at 15–25 days to the West Coast and 30–45 days to the East or Gulf Coast (March 2026). Production is as long as or longer than the ocean leg: SANIKB's OEM page states a standard 30–45 day cycle after sample approval, and some models confirm lead time in the quotation. Production plus ocean alone runs 45–70 days to the West Coast and 60–90 days to the East Coast; inspection, trucking, clearance and delivery come on top. File the ISF at least 24 hours before loading (19 CFR 149.2) and enter within 15 days of landing. Latest sample approval = site need date − all stage durations − buffers.
This guide is for project managers and buyers who already have a site date and need to work back to a purchase order. It treats "how long does it take to ship from China to USA" as one line in a longer schedule. The cost side of the same container is in our landed cost guide for imported bathroom fixtures. Here we stay on the calendar.
Where a fixture schedule really loses weeks
Parcel guides answer the transit question and stop there. A container of bathtubs, toilets and shower doors runs on five clocks: approval, production, export paperwork, the ocean and the U.S. side. Transit is the only clock you can look up; the other four depend on you and your supplier.
The production clock starts later than most buyers assume
SANIKB's OEM page counts the standard production cycle from sample approval, not from the purchase order. Most models in the table below follow that trigger. The D-8308 freestanding tub page says it directly: "The lead time counts from approval of the sample". If the sample waits three weeks in a submittal queue, the ship date moves three weeks.
Paperwork deadlines that hold a box at origin
CBP's Importer Security Filing rule covers cargo arriving by vessel. The filing is due "no later than 24 hours before the cargo is laden aboard the vessel at the foreign port," per 19 CFR 149.2. CBP warns that non-compliance can bring "monetary penalties, increased inspections and delay of cargo." On the U.S. side, a missing bond stops release.
Holiday shutdowns and missed sailings
ExFreight reports that Chinese factories and ports close for 7 to 15 days around Chinese New Year. It adds that cargo not loaded before the freeze typically waits 10 to 20 days extra. One missed sailing can cost nearly as much time as a West Coast crossing.
The cost of a late container is yours
Lost days cost money before any freight invoice arrives. Installers get rebooked, rooms stay open, and air freight for heavy ceramics starts to look tempting. Our cargo insurance guide for fixture shipments covers damage claims. A schedule slip is a separate project cost, so the fix is float in the plan.
China to USA shipping time by sea: what the published ranges say
Every shipping time from China to USA quoted below is a forwarder's typical range, not a carrier commitment. Routing, transshipment and port congestion all move it. Use these numbers for early planning, then replace them with the sailing your forwarder actually books.
- West Coast: Dimerco's March 2026 transit guide gives 15–25 days port to port, with "Shanghai–LA around 15–20 days, Shenzhen–LA 18–22 days."
- East and Gulf Coast: the same guide gives "30–45 days via Panama Canal or around South America; Ningbo–New York often 30–35 days."
- A second view: ExFreight's transit guide (ExFreight, February 2025) states "Ocean FCL takes 18 to 27 days port-to-port to West Coast ports" and 28 to 44 days to East Coast ports (New York, Savannah, Norfolk), a range ExFreight does not clearly label as port-to-port or door-to-door.
- Door to door: Freightos' general rule of thumb is around 30-40 days door to door. It does not split that figure by coast, and East Coast port-to-port alone can reach 45 days.
- LCL: Freightos adds that "For China-US, LCL typically takes an extra one or two weeks."
Plan on the top of the range for your coast, not the midpoint. Keep that number until a booking confirmation names a vessel and a sailing date.
SANIKB production lead times, word for word from each product page
Production is usually the longest single block in the schedule. On SANIKB's site, lead time is stated per model, and the start trigger is not always the same. The table copies the wording from each live product page.
| Model | Product | Lead time as stated | MOQ or packing data |
|---|---|---|---|
| K1 | K1 elongated tankless smart toilet | 30–45 days after sample approval | MOQ 30 pcs |
| 945 | 945 foot-sensing smart bidet toilet | Lead time is 20 to 45 days after deposit | 0.205275 CBM; 42 kg net, 45 kg gross |
| BA4834CT | 48 x 34 acrylic shower base | Standard lead time is 30–45 days after sample approval | MOQ 50 pcs |
| D-8026Q | 71 in double-ended drop-in tub | Lead time is 30-45 days after sample approval | 35 pcs · 1×40HQ |
| D-8308 | D-8308 roll-top freestanding tub | 30-45 days after sample approval | 35–40 pcs · 1×40HQ |
| XA-8801 | Deep oval solid surface tub | Confirm in quotation | 35 pcs · 1×40HQ |
| D2920 | 29 x 20 in double bowl stainless sink | 30-45 days after sample approval | MOQ 50 pcs |
| NA-R | NA-R frameless sliding shower door | 30–45 days after you approve the sample | MOQ 20 pcs |
| B743 01/02 | Single hole bathroom faucet | Quoted with each order | MOQ 100 pcs |
| BRON | Ribbed floating vanity | Confirm in quotation | MOQ: confirm in quotation |
Six of the ten models in this table count 30–45 days from sample approval. That matches the OEM page's "Standard mass-production cycle after sample approval." The 945 smart toilet counts from deposit instead. XA-8801, the BRON vanity and the B743 faucet are set in the written quotation, so the schedule has a blank until that document arrives.
A mixed container runs at the pace of its slowest line. If one SKU in a mixed 40HQ sits at the top of its range, the whole box waits for it. For loading figures such as "35 pcs · 1×40HQ," see our 40HQ container loading guide for fixtures.

Need the start trigger in writing for every line? Ask for per-model lead times and sample timing with your SKU list and quantities. SANIKB will reply with quotation, lead time and packing information within 12 business hours.
Sample approval: the gate before the clock starts
The OEM page lists a written sample approval step: "Review dimensions, finish, branding, accessories and packaging before mass production." Only one product page states a sample time. The NA-R shower door page says "Sample lead time approximately 7–15 days, and sample cost is credited against your first bulk order." For every other model, ask for the sample date in the quotation.
Your own review time sits on top of that. Architect submittals, owner sign-off and mock-up rooms all happen here. Our guide to fixture sourcing on a new construction schedule maps those approvals to build phases.

ISF filing: the 24-hour rule that sets your origin deadline
ISF, often called "10+2," is a filing made before loading, not before arrival. Under 19 CFR 149.2, the responsible party is the "ISF Importer, as defined in § 149.1 of this part, or authorized agent". The deadline is tied to vessel loading at the foreign port.
That moves your data deadline to the China side of the ocean. Your filer needs supplier and shipment details before cargo cut-off, so the commercial invoice and packing list must be final before the container leaves the factory. Who arranges the filing depends on your trade term. Our FOB vs DDP comparison for fixture imports covers who owns each step.
CBP's May 2023 ISF FAQ sets liquidated damages per violation for an ISF default; the FOB vs DDP guide linked above covers who carries that exposure. The same FAQ confirms CBP "will accept one bond for the ISF filing and a separate bond for entry." The exception is a Unified Entry filing by the same party, which needs one bond covering both.
Customs bond: single transaction or continuous, and when you need it
Under 19 CFR 142.4, merchandise "shall not be released from Customs custody at the time Customs receives the entry documentation" without the required bond. That bond is "a single entry or continuous bond on Customs Form 301". No bond on file means a container that has landed but cannot leave.
CBP's February 2024 bond guide defines both types. A single transaction bond "secures a single transaction or activity." A continuous bond covers transactions over a one-year period and renews automatically on its anniversary.
The guide sets the minimum Activity Code 1 continuous bond at 50,000 US dollars or 10% of the prior 12 months' duties, taxes and fees, whichever is greater. A single transaction bond is generally no less than entered value plus duties, taxes and fees. For a first container, settle the customs bond type with your broker when you book the sailing, not after the ship lands.
Entry and clearance: legal limits versus typical days
Two legal clocks start once the vessel lands. Per 19 CFR 142.2, merchandise "will be entered within 15 calendar days after landing from a vessel, aircraft or vehicle." Under 19 CFR 142.12, the entry summary "shall be filed, with estimated duties attached, within 10 working days after the time of entry." Ten working days is about 14 calendar days when no holiday falls inside. If the container moves in bond to an inland port, 19 CFR 142.2 starts the 15-day clock "after arrival at the port of destination" instead.
Those are outer limits, not planning times. ExFreight says "Routine CBP (Customs and Border Protection) clearance takes 1 to 3 business days when documentation is complete." It also says "Errors trigger holds of 5 to 14 days." ExFreight's February 2025 guide put dwell at LA/LB at 2 to 4 days. Ask your trucker for the current figure. Clean paperwork is what keeps clearance near the low end of that range. Ask your forwarder how many free days the terminal and carrier allow, because hold days beyond them are billed to the importer.
How long does it take to ship from China to USA for a whole project?
Start from the date fixtures must be on site, not from the date you hope to order. Subtract every stage at the top of its range, then add holiday and risk buffers. The answer is the latest date you can sign the sample approval.
Latest sample approval = Site need date − T_staging − T_inland − T_clearance − T_ocean − T_origin − T_inspection − T_production − T_holiday − T_bufferISF due = Vessel loading time − 24 hoursEntry due = Landing date + 15 calendar daysEntry summary due = Entry date + 10 working days
Set T_production from the product page or the written quotation, using the top of the stated range. Set T_ocean from the booked sailing once you have one. Until then, use the top of the cited range for your coast. Every other T should come from your forwarder, broker and site team.
Count calendar days throughout, and ask whether the factory's quoted days are calendar days. Mixing working and calendar days can move a plan by a week.
| Stage (illustrative planning ranges, not a quote) | Planning range used here | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Written sample approval | Your review time, plus sample lead time | NA-R states approximately 7–15 days; other models per quotation |
| Production | 30–45 days, or 20 to 45 days after deposit for the 945 | Product pages; some models confirm in quotation |
| Holiday allowance | 7–15 days if production overlaps Chinese New Year | ExFreight closure range |
| Inspection and report sign-off | 3–5 days (assumption) | Scope agreed per SKU before evidence is prepared |
| Origin trucking and cargo cut-off | 4–7 days (assumption) | Ask your forwarder for the real cut-off |
| Ocean, West Coast | 15–25 days port to port | Dimerco 2026 |
| Ocean, East or Gulf Coast | 30–45 days port to port | Dimerco 2026 |
| Clearance and terminal dwell | 3–7 days (assumption) | ExFreight (February 2025): clearance 1 to 3 business days; LA/LB dwell 2 to 4 days |
| Drayage, devanning, local delivery | 2–4 days (assumption) | Ask your trucker and site team |
| Staging before install | 5–10 days (assumption) | Your site program |
Worked example: East Coast June install with Lunar New Year in the window
Illustrative example — assumed inputs, not a quote: a mixed 40HQ of D-8308 freestanding tubs, K1 smart toilets and NA-R shower doors for a site near an East Coast port. Fixtures must be on site by Tuesday, June 1, 2027. Work backward one stage at a time:
- Staging before trim-out, 7 days: delivered to site by May 25.
- Drayage, devanning and local delivery, 3 days: container available at the terminal May 22.
- Clearance and terminal dwell, 5 days: vessel lands May 17. Entry is due within 15 calendar days, by June 1.
- Ocean to the East Coast, 45 days (the top of the cited range): container laden on the vessel April 2. ISF is due no later than 24 hours before loading, so April 1 at the latest. Plan to file at booking.
- Origin trucking and cargo cut-off, 5 days: cargo leaves the factory March 28.
- Inspection and report sign-off, 4 days: production finished by March 24.
- Production at the top of the stated 30–45 days, plus a 15-day holiday allowance, 60 days: production starts January 23. Lunar New Year's Day, February 6, 2027, falls inside this window.
- Schedule buffer, 14 days: latest written sample approval is January 9, 2027.
Total: 7 + 3 + 5 + 45 + 5 + 4 + 45 + 15 + 14 = 143 calendar days. That is the span from sample approval to the site need date. The NA-R sample, at its stated 7–15 days plus courier and review time, has to be requested in December 2026. For a site near a West Coast port, use the 25-day top of the West Coast range. The latest approval then moves 20 days later, to January 29, 2027. For an East Coast site routed through the West Coast, add your forwarder's quoted rail or truck days back in before you count any gain.
Treat the result as a deadline, not a forecast. If the approval date has already passed, cut scope, split the order or move the install date now, while those choices are still cheap.
Have a site date already? Send your install date, destination port and SKU list through the project quote request, and run this formula on quoted lead times and packing data instead of assumptions.
Sea freight China to USA: a timing decision matrix
Use the matrix to pick a routing, then confirm each leg with your forwarder.
| Option | Cited typical transit | Best fit | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| FCL to a West Coast port | 15–25 days port to port (Dimerco); 18 to 27 days (ExFreight) | West sites, or plans with little float | Inland leg to an eastern site adds days; LA/LB dwell 2 to 4 days (ExFreight, February 2025) |
| FCL to an East or Gulf port | 30–45 days port to port (Dimerco); 28 to 44 days (ExFreight, measure not split) | East and Gulf sites with float in the plan | Longest ocean leg, so a missed sailing hurts more |
| LCL consolidation | An extra one or two weeks versus FCL (Freightos) | Samples, mock-up rooms, small top-ups | More handling of fragile cartons; see our LCL vs FCL guide for fixtures |
| Phased containers | Each leg as above | Rough-in first, trim-out later | Every container repeats ISF, entry and bond use |
The OEM page lists "Hotels, developers and contractors — phased delivery against your site program." Phasing helps when rough-in parts are needed months before vanities and doors. Each phase still needs its own lead time in writing.
Chinese New Year and Golden Week: how holidays move the dates
GovHK's gazetted holiday list gives Lunar New Year's Day as 6 February 2027. That is a Hong Kong date, used here only as an anchor. Ask for the factory's own closure dates in the quotation.
ExFreight describes closures of 7 to 15 days around Chinese New Year and a second slowdown for the National Day Golden Week, October 1 to 7. It warns that "Bookings made within four weeks of these dates face vessel space shortages and rate spikes."
Dimerco's separate China-to-USA breakdown notes that shipping times "may fluctuate during peak seasons," such as the run-up to Chinese New Year.
If production overlaps the holiday, add the full closure allowance. If loading falls within four weeks before the holiday, book the sailing and finish inspection early, or plan for a later vessel.
Devanning and site delivery for fragile fixtures
Devanning is where wrong-room deliveries and handling damage surface. Unloading boxed tubs and toilets room by room is slow, and a wrong pallet sent to the wrong floor costs a day. The projects page lists "SKU marks, room labels, and shipment lists prepared for installers."
Plan crew size from gross weight, not product weight. The 945 smart toilet ships at 45 kg gross. Our guide to toilet weights and shipping box sizes covers lift planning and upper-floor handling. Count and photograph cartons before you sign the delivery receipt, and note any damage on it.

When not to trust a single transit number
- The range is port to port and your site is inland. Rail and truck legs sit outside every figure above.
- The order is LCL. Freightos adds one or two weeks, and consolidation adds touches.
- A line says "Confirm in quotation." XA-8801 and the BRON vanity have no stated lead time, so no schedule is real until the quotation arrives.
- The ISF data or bond is not ready. A fast vessel does not help a container held at either end.
- The loading date sits near Chinese New Year or Golden Week. Space shortages can push you to a later sailing.
Sea freight is also the wrong mode for some late items. For a boxed bathtub, air is rarely worth pricing: chargeable weight and crate size work against you, so ask your forwarder before you count on it. Small, light items like the GL001 glass vessel sink, at 0.04 m³ and 6.8 kg gross, are realistic air top-ups. Get an air quote and transit time from your forwarder before you count on it.
What each role should own in the schedule
Finance
Map cash events to dates. The 945's clock starts at deposit, so the payment date is a schedule milestone. Duties travel with the entry summary, due within 10 working days after entry. Budget the bond and broker fees through the landed cost model, not as a surprise.
Purchasing
Get each model's lead time and its start trigger in the written quotation. The D-8026Q page notes that "The D-8026Q lead time becomes firm when the quotation is issued". Book the sailing from the cargo-ready date, and send ISF data to your filer before cut-off.
Project and operations
Own the site need date, staging space and unloading crew. Decide early whether rough-in and trim-out ship together or as phases. Share the room-by-room shipment list with the installer before the container lands.
Compliance
Confirm in writing who files the ISF and whose bond covers the entry. SANIKB states its products are cUPC certified, so ask for the current certificate for the exact model. The QC testing page says "Inspection scope and acceptance criteria are confirmed before evidence is prepared." If you need a named standard or AQL, put it in the inquiry.
Six documents to request before you fix the PO date
- Written quotation with lead time per model. It must state the trigger, sample approval or deposit, because that sets your production start date.
- Sample timing and the written sample approval record. The approval date starts the production clock on most models above, so it needs a signature and a date.
- Packing list with carton sizes, CBM and gross weight per SKU. Your forwarder needs it to book space, and your site team needs it to plan unloading.
- Draft commercial invoice with the manufacturer's name and address. Your broker uses it for the ISF and the entry, and late changes risk a hold.
- Agreed inspection scope and report format. The QC page says to "Resolve discrepancies before order or shipment release," which only works if criteria are fixed first.
- Current cUPC certificate for each exact model. Compliance questions after arrival delay installation, so check the listing before the container sails.
Working with your own China forwarder? The contact form offers 40HQ, 40HQ Mix and Own China Forwarder options. Send your forwarder details and target sailing month so cargo-ready dates and documents line up with your booking.
Frequently asked questions
Is shipping from China slow right now, and how should a project plan for it?
Transit figures published in 2026 still put West Coast port-to-port sailings at 15–25 days and East or Gulf Coast sailings at 30–45 days, per Dimerco. Speed changes with season, routing and port congestion, so no single number holds for long. Plan on the top of the range for your coast, then replace it with the booked sailing and your forwarder's arrival estimate. Re-check the arrival date weekly once the container is laden.
Do I pay tariffs on fixtures ordered from China, and when are they due?
Duties are owed by the importer of record and travel with the entry summary. Under 19 CFR 142.12, the entry summary is filed with estimated duties attached within 10 working days after the time of entry. The rate depends on the HTS classification of each product. Ask your customs broker to classify every SKU before you order; our landed cost guide shows how the duty rate, MPF and HMF flow into a per-unit budget.
Does SANIKB's lead time start at deposit or at sample approval?
Each product page states its own trigger. The K1, BA4834CT, D-8026Q, D-8308, D2920 and NA-R pages count 30–45 days from sample approval. The 945 smart toilet page says lead time is 20 to 45 days after deposit. XA-8801 and the BRON vanity say confirm in quotation. Use the trigger written in your quotation, and enter that date in your schedule as a milestone.
Who files the ISF when I buy containers from a factory in China?
Under 19 CFR 149.2, the filer is the ISF Importer or an authorized agent. The filing is due no later than 24 hours before the cargo is laden at the foreign port. If you arrange the freight, assume the filing is yours to organize through your broker or forwarder unless the contract names another party. Agree your filer in writing before booking.
What happens if my container misses the last sailing before Chinese New Year?
ExFreight reports that cargo not loaded before the pre-holiday freeze typically waits 10 to 20 days extra. It also says factories and ports close for 7 to 15 days around the holiday. Lunar New Year's Day falls on 6 February 2027 per GovHK. If your loading date is within four weeks of the holiday, book early, finish inspection early, and have ISF data ready before cargo cut-off.
